Taiwan Snapshots.

updates in progress. 10.33pm.

***
Day 1 (SGP–>HKG–>TPE)
We risked being caught for smuggling this 7183273 years skeleton and waved goodbye to the country for seven days. This is skeley’s first flight, since the Wright Brothers have yet to exist some 7183273 years ago.

Day 2 Pingxi Townships
(Taipei –> Rueifang –> Pingxi)
Also its first time on a train.

Hi, be cool~

Its 7183273 years of rusty bones aren’t able to withstand that many hours of standing and sitting.

A hard time checking out the train schedule, and still got it wrong eventually.

Jingtong is a little town with a nice name and nothing. Used to be a coal-mining place. There is a museum there, but we were not interested.

Laid-back life. Spotted a man behind the doors playing the sax. I’ll post a video if I can.

I like how I can step on the tracks, unlike our MRT tracks – Go down get fine or die.

This is what they really meant when they say the train brings them to their doorstep.

We walked 1.8km to Pingxi though we had free rides along the line. It’s a 1.5hours long wait for the next train. Grouchy dearz.

This was the first signage of Pingxi that we saw and it says “平溪–天灯的故乡”.

This is a very common sight in Taiwan. Strangely, they will just confine themselves to the little seat, and not try to jump down. Good dogs!

Few kilometers up from Pingxi is Shifen. One thing I like about Taiwan is the way they name their places. There are interesting names like 暖暖,平安,十分,九份,猫空,成功,etc.

We went in search of the famous Shifen waterfall. Walked freaking far only to find it not as big as it claims to be.

Me scared of 吊桥…

Dear is happy to be on 吊桥.

Ok, if you think we took these pictures in front of a painting, we didn’t! We walked like 30mins to get there, because we got lost.

“十分”大瀑布=Very big waterfall.

We were lucky enough to catch a bus from the very outside of the waterfall area back to the Shifen train station. Saved us a 20mins walk.

The timing was just right for a 天灯.

祝:Snoopy and Woodstock 台北之旅平安
While writing, we were like gancheong spiders, because our train is coming. My last wish was 希望能赶上火车. In the end, the train timing that I saw only operates on weekends and holidays. -.-“‘ But we managed to change the train tickets and got back to Taipei only slightly later than planned, so in a way, the lantern worked!

Anyway, I had always thought it’s litted with candle or a cradle of oil or something and had always wondered if the lanterns will hit people’s heads. But… the 天灯is actually lighted with 冥纸. If you think about what the lantern means, i.e. to bring good luck, it makes some sense (of course only if you believe the Taoist way).

This is where we flew the lanterns. 十分幸福.

Since I got the train timing wrong, we had extra time to write a wooden postcard to send to each other, and dropped into the postbox for posting.

Day 3 (Complimentary Day Tour)

Early in the morning, stupid me chasing stupid pigeon.

Tourists at what-used-to-be-中正纪念堂.

The tour guide managed to get us there by 9am to watch the guards perform. And I shamelessly, auntishly, followed closely behind the guards and took videos. (video some other time)

Yehliu. I love this shot taken by yours truly. That’s the Queen’s head behind Skeley.
There is a lie in the photo. Look at the sky. It looks cloudy, doesn’t it? The fact is, the day was blooooooody hot. And we suffered some insect bites which still itch today.

to be continued…

Back.
